BABYMETAL - Death (デス - Desu!)

Time for another adventure in BABYMETAL music. This time, I'm going off the beaten path by sharing one of the limited edition songs from BABYMETAL called Death. This one is pure death metal, or as pure as an idol-metal group can get.  First up, here's the song from the LE single.



Up until 1:15, the song has a beautifully haunting, Gothic feel to it. Then, the metal kicks in full steam with a very Metallica One feel for a bit. By the way, if you couldn't tell, they are spelling out BABYMETAL.  Japanese really haven't mastered English phonetics. ^_~

Here are a couple of live versions of the song, which kind of amuse me.  There's something about seeing young idol girls performing a death metal song that cracks me up, but in a good way.



I think this one is the on the LE disc, but don't quote me on that.



It is a shame that this song isn't on iTunes. However, were the Japanese were to allow that to happen, that would break the otaku-fleecing system the Japanese have, whereby they get otaku to double and triple dip for the same songs on different discs, but with LE ones having unique items, such as a song not found anywhere else.

Anyway, the song does tickle my ear and is another of my favorite BABYMETAL tunes. ^_^

BABYMETAL - いいね！(Iine!) - Idol Pop +Death Metal + Hip-hop + Happy Trance/Hardcore

My latest share from the heavy metal/idol Japanese group BABYMETAL is a song called Iine!, which is a rather interesting number.  This one has more pop elements in it, though that death metal element is there too. *lol*  Take a listen.


Oddly enough, around the 1:32 minute mark, BABYMETAL suddenly goes pure hip-hop on us, which is rather jarring initially, but I actually rather enjoy it now.  Considering how the death metal element takes over at 2:04, I wondered if they might be having a little fun with hip-hop or not since they end the hip-hop with, "Are you ready to mosh?" ^_^

After the death metal stuff, around 2:35, the song shifts to happy trance (or more likely, happy hardcore, but you guys can correct me) before shifting back to the pop idol stuff.

I love this song. Heck, even while writing this piece, I listened to the thing three times. *lol*

BABYMETAL - Megitsune (Merging heavy metal, idol, and traditional Japanese music in a single song.)

I recently mentioned BABYMETAL, an idol group that blends heavy metal with expected pop idol elements.  The result is actually quite good, so much so that yours truly actually got an iTunes account just to score their music. ^_^

For this post, I wanted to talk about the song Megitsune, which means "female fox". When BABYMETAL was founded, they apparently jacked up trying to do devil horns, resulting in the group's trademark hand sign, that of the kitsune. So it is appropriate somehow that they make a song called Megitsune.



I love this song. The video is pretty awesome too with shamisen players wearing kitsune masks, all the while thrashing like heavy metal head bangers. *lol* It is so awesome somehow.

About 1:50 into the video, the tempo and tone of the song change, and the video shifts to match. The BABYMETAL girls are gone, replaced by a woman in a kitsune mask, kimono, and performing a Nihon Buyou (I think that's what it is) dance. The kitsune thrashers behind her just add to the awesomeness of the moment, as does the primal screaming for some reason.  I started thinking that Inuyasha and Kagome might show up at any moment. *lol*

I scored both the instrumental version of this song as well as the full version from iTunes. It is expensive to get otherwise.

Later, I'll touch some other songs BABYMETAL has done that I like. ^_^

What Happens When Heavy Metal Meets "Kawai" Idols? BABYMETAL!

One of the the cool things about Japan is their willingness to experiment with new things and the spirit of innovation found there.  That's what happened when a producer at Amuse, Inc. when he decided to combine idol music with heavy metal music. That innovative idea gave birth to the metal-idol trio known as BABYMETAL.

I was skeptical when I first heard about this concept. I'm not a fan of idol music, but back in the day, I listened to Metallica and the like, and thanks to Robert, I was exposed to all sorts of metal variants back in Japan. So, I thought I'd give this a shot.

The first song I heard is entitled Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! (ヘドバンギャー!!).


I think the guys from Quiet Riot would approve. ^_~

I just love the way the idol style and music are so nicely blended with the metal music and style.  There's no denying the girls of BABYMETAL are cute, and there's just something kinda awesome about three, cute Japanese schoolgirls banging their heads to heavy metal. Plus, the song is just catchy to me.  "Heh-doh bang! Heh-doh bang! Heh-doh bang!" ^_^

They have a lot of other songs, which I'll go into later.  Unfortunately, they don't have an album out yet, thanks to the Japanese system of fleecing the otaku by putting out several versions of a CD single.  You can find them in iTunes though.
